A clan whose head office was located in Kokura, Kiku County, Buzen Province (Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture). The lord of the clan was the Ogasawara clan. It was a Fudai clan. After Toyotomi Hideyoshi subjugated Kyushu, Mori Katsunobu was given 60,000 koku and moved to Kokura, but in 1600 (Keicho 5), he belonged to the Western Army at the Battle of Sekigahara and was captured by Kuroda Yoshitaka of Nakatsu. After the war, Hosokawa Tadaoki was given one province of Buzen and two counties, Kunisaki and Hayami, in Bungo Province (Oita Prefecture), and moved to Nakatsu. In 1602, he built a castle in Kokura and moved there. The Hosokawa clan was in the fief for two generations, Tadaoki and Tadatoshi, and moved to Higo Kumamoto in 1632 (Kan'ei 9). After this, Ogasawara Tadazane of Akashi, Harima Province (Hyogo Prefecture) was granted 150,000 koku in six districts, Kiku, Tagawa, Kyoto, Tsuiki, Nakatsu, and Jomo, and moved to Kokura. This was intended to place the Ogasawara clan, which boasted a lineage of military achievements, in Toyonaka, a key location in Kyushu, to monitor the powerful Tozama daimyo in Kyushu, and for this reason the Ogasawara clan came to be known as the Kyushu Tandai of the Edo Shogunate. After Tadamasa, there were 10 generations of Tadao, Tadamoto, Tadafusa, Tadamitsu, Tadakata, Tadaakira, Tadahiro, Tadatoshi and Tadanobu, but in 1866 (Keio 2) during the Second Choshu Expedition, the domain was attacked by the Choshu clan, Kokura Castle was burned down, and the domain moved to Kawara in Tagawa County, where it was called the Kawara Domain. In January of the following year, Kikyu County was handed over to the Choshu clan and a peace treaty was made. After the Meiji Restoration in 1870 (Meiji 3), the domain headquarters was moved to Toyots (Miyako Town) in Kyoto County, where it was called Toyots. In July of the following year, 1871, the domain was abolished and Toyots Prefecture was established, before becoming Kokura Prefecture in November of the same year, and in 1876 it was merged into Fukuoka Prefecture.
