A former town in Ayauta County, located in central Kagawa Prefecture, halfway between Takamatsu and Sakaide. It is a farming area where rice, wheat and fruit are grown, but the Yosan Line and National Route 11 run through it, and the number of factories and houses is increasing. It was the center of the ancient Sanuki Province, and is home to the ruins of Kokubunji Temple (a special historic site), the ruins of Kokubun Nunnery Temple (historic site), and Kokubunji Temple, the 80th temple of the 88 Shikoku temples. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Takamatsu City along with Aji Town and Mure Town in Kida County, and Kagawa Town and Konan Town in Kagawa County. 26.25 km2 . Population 24,228 (2003).

This old town in Shimotsuga County occupies the lowlands of the Sugata River basin, a tributary of the Watarase River, in southern Tochigi Prefecture. The city center developed as a post town on the Nikko Kaido road during the Edo period, and the Tohoku Main Line runs through it. Rice and field crops are cultivated here. The remains of Shimotsuke Kokubunji Temple (historic site) and Kokubunji Nunnery Temple (historic site) are located here. In January 2006, it merged with Minamikawachi Town, Kawachi County, and Ishibashi Town, Shimotsuga County, to become a city, Shimotsuke City. Area: 20.80 km2 . Population: 17,130 (2003).

香川県中部,高松・坂出両市の中間にある綾歌(あやうた)郡の旧町。米麦,果樹を栽培する農村地帯であるが,予讃線,国道11号線が通じ,工場や住宅も増加している。古代の讃岐(さぬきの)国の中心で,国分寺跡(特別史跡),国分尼寺跡(史跡),四国八十八ヵ所80番札所国分寺がある。2006年1月木田郡庵治町,牟礼町,香川郡香川町,香南町と高松市へ編入。26.25km2。2万4228人(2003)。

栃木県南部,渡良瀬(わたらせ)川の支流姿川の流域低地を占める下都賀(しもつが)郡の旧町。中心市街は江戸時代,日光街道の宿場町として発達,東北本線が通じる。稲作,畑作を行う。下野(しもつけ)国分寺跡(史跡),国分尼寺跡(史跡)がある。2006年1月,河内郡南河内町,下都賀郡石橋町と合併し市制,下野市となる。20.80km2。1万7130人(2003)。
