1767‐1836 (Meiwa 4‐Tenpo 7) The second son of Motoori Norinaga. His childhood name was Kyojiro. In 1784 (Tenmei 4), he was adopted by Konishi Masamitsu, a wealthy merchant who had run a medicine wholesaler in Kyoguchi-cho, Tsu for generations, and became the sixth generation successor. Even after being adopted, he continued to look after his older brother Haruniwa when he became blind, accompanying him on his treatment and acupuncture training, while also generously supporting his father Norinaga both materially and spiritually, and he himself had a deep interest in academics. The Collected Letters of Motoori Norinaga (compiled by Okuyama Ushichi) contains 114 letters by Norinaga addressed to Haruniwa.
