International Geographical Union (IGU)

It was established in 1922 under the International Council for Scientific Research with the aim of promoting geographical research, and later became an organization under the International Council for Scientific Research (now the International Council for Science). Its predecessor was the International Council of Geographers. Japan is represented by the Science Council of Japan, which is in charge of the Geographical Research Liaison Committee. 地理学研究の促進を目的として，1922年，国際学術研究会議のもとに発足，のちに国際学術連合会議 (現国際科学会議) 傘下の組織となる。その前身は国際地理学会議。日本は日本学術会議が加盟し，地理学研究連絡委員会が対応している。
