A plain formed by a braided stream of water flowing out from the terminus of a glacier. It is a term mainly used in English-speaking countries, and is called sander in Iceland, and Sandor or Sandur is the general name in Europe. A huge moraine line (bank-like) forms at the edge of the glacier, and an outwash plain develops on the outside of that. As the glacier retreats, the braided stream channel is usually abandoned, and often a single stream merges into a deep cut, forming a terrace.
