Anasazi culture - Anasazi

A prehistoric agricultural culture that flourished in the southwestern United States (Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico). It is considered to be the ancestor of the indigenous Pueblo people (American Indians). They practiced agriculture, mainly growing corn, in dry mountainous regions. It lasted from about 300 BC to about 1700 AD. It developed from the early Basketmaker period, known for skilled basketry, to the later Pueblo period, characterized by large cut stone structures.

アメリカ合衆国南西部（アリゾナ州、コロラド州、ニュー・メキシコ州）に栄えた先史農耕文化。先住民のプエブロ人（アメリカ・インディアン）の祖先の文化と考えられる。乾燥した山間部地方で、トウモロコシ栽培を主とする農耕を営んでいた。紀元前300年ごろから紀元後1700年ごろまで続いた。巧みな籠(かご)細工で知られる前半のバスケットメーカー期から、切石造りの大建造物に特色のある後半のプエブロ期へと発展した。
