During the Sengoku period, it flourished as a castle town around Hinoe Castle, where the Arima clan was based. In 1580 (Tensho 8), Arima Seminary was established under the protection of the Christian daimyo Arima Harunobu, and four boys from the Tensho Embassy to Europe also studied here.
