Hu Jie Jin

A Chinese thinker in the early Ming dynasty. His pen name was Shuxin and his pen name was Jingzhai. He was from Yugan County, Jiangxi Province. He was a student of Wu Youbi. He was in fierce opposition to his fellow students Chen Baisha (Kenzhang) and Lou Yizhai (Liang, 1422-1491), and was an ardent defender of Neo-Confucianism. He also severely criticized Zhu Xi's (Zhu Xi) non-Confucian achievements, and presented a revised view in The Treatise on the Mind and Nature. His main work is the Record of the Works of the Living Classes. The Collection of Hu Jingzhai is a separate collection. He was reevaluated along with Xue Xuan during the period of reevaluation of Neo-Confucianism at the end of the Ming and beginning of the Qing dynasties. In Japan, the Kyoyoroku was widely read throughout the Edo period, and a Japanese-printed version was also published.

中国、明(みん)代初期の思想家。字(あざな)は叔心(しゅくしん)、号は敬斎。江西省余干県の人。呉与弼(ごよひつ)の門人。同門の陳白沙(ちんはくさ)（献章）、婁一斎(ろういっさい)（諒(りょう)、1422―1491）と厳しく対立して、朱子学を熱烈に護持しようとした。朱熹(しゅき)（朱子）その人のもつ非儒学的業績に対しても激しく非難し、心性論では修正意見を提示している。主著は『居業録(きょぎょうろく)』。『胡敬斎(こけいさい)集』は別集。明末清(しん)初の朱子学再評価期に薛瑄(せっせん)とともに見直された。日本では『居業録』が江戸期を通じてよく読まれ、和刻本も刊行された。
