A Japanese musical instrument. A bamboo percussion instrument that has been used since the Middle Ages. In particular, dancers hold it in both hands and hit it together or do something like a curved beat to keep interesting rhythm. It is known as a special skill of the street performance, Houka, and is sung in songs such as "Tsukimitsutsu utafu hauka no kokiriko bamboo no yogo no sumitsuryo ka" (Seventy-first Poetry Contest). In Kiyu Shoran, it is said that there was also one with azuki beans inside the bamboo tube. Currently, it is used in folk performing arts such as the Bon Odori in Hirano, Shizuoka City, and the Kokiriko Dance in Gokayama, Toyama Prefecture, and the Kokiriko Dance is also included in the Ayako Mai performance in Onadani, Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture.
