A town in Date County in the northern part of the Fukushima Basin in northern Fukushima Prefecture. The main settlement developed as a post station at the junction of the Oshu Kaido and Ushu Kaido roads, and the Tohoku Main Line runs through it. During the feudal era, it prospered due to the Handa Silver Mine. There are silk reeling and food factories. It produces apples and peaches.
