It is a county-level city in the southeastern part of Yunnan Province in southwestern China. It belongs to the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture. It has a population of 391,979 (2013). Known since the Han dynasty as a tin producing area, it is also known as the tin capital. Its tin reserves account for more than half of the country's total, and it is said to have one of the world's largest deposits. In addition to tin refining, lead and aluminum are also refined, and the chemical industry, mainly phosphate fertilizer, is also thriving. Sugar refining, agricultural machinery, electrical machinery, and other industries are also located here. A branch line runs from the narrow-gauge Kunhe Line, which connects Kunming and the river mouth.

中国南西部、雲南(うんなん)省南東部の県級市。紅河(こうが)ハニ族イ族自治州に所属する。人口39万1979（2013）。漢代から知られる錫(すず)の産出地で錫都(せきと)ともよばれる。錫の埋蔵量は全国の半分以上を占め、世界最大級の鉱床があるといわれる。錫の精錬のほか、鉛やアルミニウムの精錬も行われ、燐酸(りんさん)肥料を主とする化学工業も盛んである。製糖、農機具、電機などの工業も立地している。昆明(こんめい)と河口を結ぶ狭軌の昆河線から支線が通じる。
