Inkstone lid (inkstone cover) - Suzuributa

Japanese:
Inkstone lid (inkstone cover) - Suzuributa
It was used in the Edo period to serve fish with sake. It was common from the Heian period onwards to line the lid of a suzuri box with thin paper and serve sweets, nuts, fruits, and sometimes even snow on it, but the suzuri lid was made as an independent dish. Santo Kyoden wrote in Kototoshu that "The practice of serving fish in a tiered box fell out of fashion at the end of the Genroku period, while serving on an inkstone lid is thought to have begun during the Hoei period," and Tokinobu Kitamura expressed a similar view in Kiyu Shoran.
