Sweatshirt - Kazami

Japanese:
Sweatshirt - Kazami

There are two types of outerwear worn by young girls of the nobility: hare and ke. The body is made of two single-layered kimono with a hanging cuff and a board cuff, and both armpits are open. Hare is characterized by a long hem, and several layers of akome are layered on top of a hitoe, and outer hakama is worn over long hakama. For ke, a pair of kiri hakama is worn over the kiri hakama. From the Nara period to the early Heian period, an undergarment called kansan, which was worn by both male and female aristocrats, came to be used as outerwear, and became the clothing worn exclusively by young girls. The name probably changed from "kamusamu" to "kazami." The Pillow Book states, "In the spring, the sweat robe resembles azaleas and cherry blossoms, and in summer, green leaves and decaying leaves." Additionally, the Tale of Genji (Hotaru), states, "A child in the western pair is wearing a sweat robe made of iris-patterned lining and a thin indigo lining."
