An American liner company. APL is an American abbreviation. It has a government contract for sea route assistance and operates liner routes mainly connecting the Far East and Southeast Asia with the Pacific coast of the United States. It was founded in 1929 and is currently a subsidiary of Natomas. It signed a sea route assistance contract with the government in 1948 after World War II, and in the late 1950s introduced 20-knot high-speed Mariner-type cargo ships to Pacific routes, overpowering other foreign fleets. In 1956, Natomas bought 2.3 million shares, or more than 54% of the total stock, and it became a subsidiary of Natomas. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
