Born on March 28, 1899. Studied the relationship between beriberi and vitamins at the Oshimazono Internal Medicine Department of the Tokyo Imperial Government. In 1933, she founded the Home Diet Research Society (later the Japan Women's University of Nutrition) with her husband, Shozo, at their home. In 1935, she launched the magazine "Nutrition and Cooking." In 1961, she became the university's president. In 1991, she was awarded the Person of Cultural Merit. She passed away on April 2, 1997, at the age of 98. She was from Wakayama Prefecture. She graduated from Tokyo Women's Medical College (now Tokyo Women's Medical University).
