Aya Kagawa

Japanese: 香川綾 - かがわあや

1899-1997 A nutritionist from the Showa to Heisei eras.
Born on March 28, 1899. Studied the relationship between beriberi and vitamins at the Oshimazono Internal Medicine Department of the Tokyo Imperial Government. In 1933, she founded the Home Diet Research Society (later the Japan Women's University of Nutrition) with her husband, Shozo, at their home. In 1935, she launched the magazine "Nutrition and Cooking." In 1961, she became the university's president. In 1991, she was awarded the Person of Cultural Merit. She passed away on April 2, 1997, at the age of 98. She was from Wakayama Prefecture. She graduated from Tokyo Women's Medical College (now Tokyo Women's Medical University).

明治32年3月28日生まれ。東京帝大島薗内科で脚気(かっけ)とビタミンの関係を研究。昭和8年夫の昇三とともに自宅に家庭食養研究会(のち女子栄養大)を創設。10年雑誌「栄養と料理」を創刊。36年学長。平成3年文化功労者。平成9年4月2日死去。98歳。和歌山県出身。東京女子医専(現東京女子医大)卒。
