A former town in Kawabe district, located in central Akita prefecture, bordering Akita city to the east. It lies in the Iwami River basin, a tributary of the Omono River. Wood is abundant in the area, and a sawmill is located in Wada, the city center, where the Ou Main Line runs. Rice is the main industry, but livestock and field crops are also produced. The town is home to the Soya Gorge and the Tsukushimori Dike (a natural monument). In January 2005, it was incorporated into Yuwa Town, Kawabe district, and Akita city. Area: 301.06 km2 . 秋田県中部,秋田市の東に接する河辺郡の旧町。雄物(おもの)川の支流岩見川流域を占める。木材の産が多く,奥羽本線が通じる中心市街和田に製材工場がある。稲作を中心に,畜産,畑作が行われる。岨谷(そや)峡や筑紫森(つくしもり)岩脈(天然記念物)がある。2005年1月河辺郡雄和町と秋田市へ編入。301.06km2。1万628人(2003)。
