This is an archaeological site from the early Jomon period in Koda, Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. It is located about 20km upstream from the mouth of the Edogawa River, on the western edge of the Shimousa Plateau (at an altitude of about 19m) facing the alluvial lowland, and is a group of shell mounds with a purely salty shell layer consisting of clams, cockles, etc. Fourteen small shell mounds are scattered around the edge of the plateau that juts out like a peninsula. This archaeological site has been known for a long time, and attracted attention in 1930 due to an investigation by the Oyama Institute of Prehistory. Several small-scale excavations were attempted thereafter, and in 1940, excavations by Yajima Seisaku uncovered the remains of two pit dwellings from the Hanazumi Lower Layer period.
