Aikawa Archaeological Museum

Japanese: 相川考古館 - あいかわこうこかん

This is a history museum in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture. It was founded in 1950. It is a private museum that stores and displays the collection of anthropologist Aikawa Shiga . It has a collection of about 10,000 archaeological artifacts excavated in the local Isesaki area. It displays clay figurines of people (a male playing a koto, an armed male, a male in full costume, and a male with a wide obi) that are designated as important cultural properties by the country. The building is housed in a storehouse belonging to the Aikawa family, who served as a wakihonjin (main wing of Isesaki) during the Edo period.

群馬県伊勢崎市にある歴史博物館。昭和25年(1950)創立。人類学者相川之賀(しが)の収集品を収蔵・展示する私設博物館。地元の伊勢崎地方で発掘された考古資料等約1万点を所蔵。国指定重要文化財の人物埴輪(弾琴男子像・武装男子像・盛装男子像・広帯男子像)などを展示。建物は江戸時代に伊勢崎の脇本陣を務めた相川家の土蔵を利用したもの。
