Sendai River

Japanese: 千代川 - せんだいがわ

A river that flows north through eastern Tottori Prefecture. It originates from Mount Nagi and Mount Okinoyama, and joins the Yatogawa River, Sajigawa River, and Fukurogawa River along the way before flowing into the Sea of Japan at Karo in Tottori City. It is about 52 km long. In the gorge upstream, there are the Ashizu Santaki Falls, Amataki Falls, and Oshika Falls. It erodes the northern slope of the Chugoku Mountains, forming the Tottori Plain in the middle and lower reaches, and Lake Koyama and the Tottori-Kokoyama Sand Dunes have developed at its mouth. The river was once prone to flooding, but flood control was completed in 1923, and it is now useful for irrigation of the Tottori Plain and hydroelectric power generation.

Chiyokawa

This is a former village area in the southern part of Shimotsuma City, in the southwestern part of Ibaraki Prefecture. It is located in the Kinugawa River basin. In 1955, the villages of Munemichi, Sankai, and Ogata were merged to form Chiyokawa Village. It was incorporated into Shimotsuma City in 2006. It is an agricultural region centered on rice production, and also cultivates Chinese cabbage, watermelon, and other crops. The central settlement, Munemichi, was once a river port along the Kinugawa River.

鳥取県東部を北流する川。那岐山，沖ノ山に源を発し，途中で八東川，佐治川，袋川などを合せて鳥取市賀露で日本海に注ぐ。全長約 52km。上流の峡谷部に芦津三滝，雨滝，大鹿滝などがある。中国山地の北斜面を浸食し，中・下流域に鳥取平野を形成，河口部には湖山池や鳥取・湖山砂丘が発達する。かつては水害の多い川であったが 1923年の改修により治水が完成，鳥取平野の灌漑，水力発電に役立っている。
