Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (English: Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region)

Japanese: 広西チワン族自治区 - こうせいチワンぞくじちく（英語表記）Guǎng xī Zhuàng zú zì zhì qū

A province-level autonomous region in southern China. In Chinese it is written as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It was established on March 5, 1958 in the area of the former Guangxi Province. It borders Guangdong Province to the east, Hunan and Guizhou Provinces to the north, Yunnan Province to the west, Vietnam to the southwest, and faces the Gulf of Tonkin in the South Sea. Its abbreviated name is Gui. It has an area of 236,600 ^km2 and a population of 45.89 million (1996). The seat of the autonomous region government is Nanning. As of 1996, it is made up of 18 cities (Nanning, Liuzhou, Guilin, Wuzhou, Pingxiang, Heshan, Beihai, etc.), 7 districts, 59 counties, and 12 autonomous counties.
