…British popular weekly newspaper. It was founded in Manchester in 1881 by George Newnes, who had made his money by running a vegetarian restaurant. As the title of its first issue, The Tit-Bits from All the Most Interesting Books, Periodicals and Newspapers of the World, suggests, it was a 16-page magazine that initially featured digests of interesting articles from other newspapers and magazines, and later began to include original material.
