Takayama Village

Japanese:
Takayama Village
A settlement that serves as a base for land use in highlands. In temperate regions of mid-latitudes, it refers to a settlement at an altitude of 1,000 m or more, and in tropical regions, it refers to a settlement at an altitude of 2,000 to 3,000 m or more. It is also called a highland settlement or high-distance settlement.
[Takayama Village in Japan]
Few highland settlements have the same functions as cities, and are classified according to the occupations of their inhabitants as follows: (1) Highland forestry settlements These are typical mountain villages, whose inhabitants depend entirely on forests, and include woodworker settlements, charcoal-making settlements, and forestry labor settlements. They are often located on cliffs or mountain slopes, on narrow high terraces, or in valleys where it is inconvenient to obtain residential land. They consist of small houses without gardens or storehouses, and a few vegetable gardens, and are surrounded by forests on all sides, creating a landscape that is very different from that of rural settlements in low-lying climates.
