"A Certain Woman's Glimpse" - A Certain Woman's Glimpse

...A full-length novel by Takeo Arishima. The first part is a revised version of A Certain Woman's Glimpse, which was serialized in Shirakaba from 1911 to 1913 (Meiji 44 to Taisho 2), and the second part was written in 1919. The protagonist, Yoko Satsuki, has a strong sense of self and is a new woman who seeks to break away from tradition and restrictions, but she seeks the source of her life solely in men and is financially dependent on them.

…During World War I, the humanitarian element became stronger, and satellite magazines influenced by this trend were produced in the surrounding area. In the heyday of Shirakaba, there was criticism from Ikuta Choko and others, but works such as A Certain Woman's Glimpse (the first part of A Certain Woman) by Arishima Takeo, Mushanokoji's play Sono Imoto (Its Sister), Shiga's At Kinosaki, and Nagayo's play Xiang Yu and Liu Bang were published in Shirakaba, and it played the role of a forum for masterpieces that remain in the history of modern literature. Even after the publication of Shirakaba ceased, their friendship continued and their influence was outstanding, forming the so-called "Shirakaba Mountains." …
