Asayama Bontoan

Asayama Bontoan
1349-? A renga poet from the Nanboku-cho to Muromachi period.
Born in the 5th year of the Jowa era (1461-1468). A local lord in Izumo (Shimane Prefecture). He learned waka poetry from Reizei Tamehide and renga poetry from Nijō Yoshimoto. He served Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and later became a monk and travelled around the country. He returned to Kyoto when he was around 60 years old. There is a theory that he died at the age of 79 in 1427 (1427). His name was Morotsuna. His self-selected haiku collections include "Bonto Renga-awase Jugoban."

貞和(じょうわ)5=正平(しょうへい)4年生まれ。出雲(いずも)(島根県)の地頭。和歌を冷泉(れいぜい)為秀に,連歌を二条良基(よしもと)にまなぶ。足利義満につかえ,のち出家して各地を遍歴。60歳前後で京都にもどった。応永34年(1427)79歳で没したとする説がある。名は師綱(もろつな)。自撰付句集に「梵灯連歌合十五番」など。
