A style of writing based on modern spoken language, especially standard Japanese. Since the Meiji period, the movement to unify spoken language has led to the development of colloquial Japanese as an alternative to literary Japanese, which was far removed from colloquial Japanese. It has been popularized and refined by novelists in particular, and in 1904 the majority of texts in national textbooks were written in colloquial Japanese. Around 1921, newspapers adopted colloquial Japanese, and in 1946 all official documents adopted colloquial Japanese. Depending on the ending of the sentence, it can be classified into the "da" style, the "dearu" style, the "desu/masu" style, and so on. → Related topics Colloquialism | Written style Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
