The Story of Hong Kildong

Japanese: 洪吉童伝 - こうきつどうでん

A Hangeul novel from the Yi Dynasty in Korea. Author Huh Yun (Kiyon). Hong Gildong was born to the distinguished Hong Panshu family, but because he was an illegitimate child, he was not even allowed to call his father "father." He ran away from home to join a group of bandits, becoming the leader of the "Kahing Bin Party" due to the humiliation he faced at home and the conspiracy that was trying to make him nothing. He used his magic to appear and disappear at will, stealing the treasures of corrupt government officials and temples, and traveling the eight provinces. However, when his father was cursed, he sought a utopia overseas, founding an island nation and becoming its king. There has been talk of imitations of "Water Margin" since ancient times, but the similarities with "Water Margin Sequel" cannot be overlooked.

朝鮮，李朝のハングル小説。作者許筠（きよいん）。洪吉童は名門洪判書の子として生まれながら，庶出のため父を父と呼ぶことさえ許されない。彼は家庭内での賤待と自分を無き者にしようとする陰謀に，家出して盗賊の群れに投じ，〈活貧党〉の首領となる。神出鬼没の幻術を駆使して貪官汚吏や寺刹の財宝を奪い，八道を横行する。しかし累が父に及ぶや，理想郷を海外に求め，島国を建設してみずから国王となる。古来《水滸伝》の模作がうんぬんされてきたが，《水滸後伝》との類似も見のがせない。
