This skyscraper building stands in the heart of Manhattan, New York, and was completed in 1930 as the Chrysler Corporation's corporate building. When designer William Van Allen (1883-1954) learned that the original plan was 0.61 meters short of the Bank of Manhattan headquarters building, which was being constructed at the same time, he secretly added a steel spire, achieving a height of 319 meters, 20 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower, the tallest building at the time. However, this status was short-lived, lasting only a few months until the Empire State Building was completed. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
