The entry for November 879 in the Sandai Jitsuroku indicates that Umenomiya, the ujigami of the Tachibana clan, was the shrine where Tachibana Kachiko (the Empress of Emperor Saga), the mother of Emperor Ninmyo, worshipped and served. More clearly, the entry for January 28, 1000 in the Gonki, in which the author Fujiwara no Yukinari asserts that an empress of Fujiwara descent should have performed the ujigami at Kasuga Shrine or Oharano Shrine, is the basis for the clan's claim of divine grandchildren, based on stories of divine marriages with women of the clan, and the example of the system of placing Saigū at Ise Shrine, Saiin at Kamo Shrine, and Saijo at Kasuga Shrine, suggests that in ancient times, when the ujigami was the ancestral god, female priests of the clan were highly valued. …

…なお本来の氏神祭祀には族長(氏上，氏宗)のほかに一族の女性が司祭した形跡が注目される。《三代実録》元慶3年(879)11月条に橘氏の氏神，梅宮（うめのみや）が仁明天皇の母橘嘉智子(嵯峨天皇皇后)のまつり仕えた神社であることが示されており，さらに明確には《権記》長保2年(1000)1月28日条に筆者である藤原行成が藤原氏出身の皇后は本来春日社や大原野社の〈氏祭〉をなすべきことを主張している。氏族が神孫を主張する根拠に一族の女性との神婚譚があり，制度的には伊勢神宮に斎宮，賀茂社に斎院，春日社に斎女を置いた例をみると，古く祖先神を氏神とする場合に一族の女性司祭が重んじられたことがうかがわれる。…
