Yoro Falls - Yoronotaki

Japanese: 養老ノ滝 - ようろうのたき
Yoro Falls - Yoronotaki

This waterfall is located in Yoro-cho, Yoro-gun, Gifu Prefecture. It hangs on the eastern slope of the northern part of the Yoro Mountains. Follow the shallow valley path in the old and new alluvial fan in Yoro-cho to the west, then climb the steep slope at the top of the fan until you reach Yoro Falls. The waterfall is about 32 meters high and 4 meters wide. Yoro Falls is the focal point of the Prefectural Yoro Park, and nearby are famous historical sites such as Kikusui-sen, which is connected to the legend of the filial son Genjo-nai showing his filial piety to his elderly father, the remains of Emperor Gensho's temporary palace, Yoro-ji Temple, and Yoro-jinja Shrine. Emperor Gensho visited this place in 717 (Reiki 3), and changed the era name to Yoro due to the auspicious sign of the beautiful spring (Shoku Nihongi). In 1970, it was designated as Ibi-Sekigahara-Yoro Quasi-National Park, and is popular with tourists as a famous spot for viewing cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.
