A crustacean of the Scalpellidae family in the order Complete Thorax, suborder Scalpellidae. It is the largest species of Scalpellidae, reaching a body length of 14 cm. It has a shell plate that protrudes like a fang from the head part. It is named after its shape. It attaches its stalk to stones on the deep sea floor more than 100 m deep south of Sagami Bay, and to the skeletons of other animals such as sponges and coelenterates. It is dioecious. While the females are large, the males are very small, about 1 mm in size, and sac-shaped, and can sometimes be seen attached to the lower edge of the opening of the female's mantle cavity. The Scalpellidae family is generally distributed widely on the deep sea floor, and there are many species.

完胸目エボシガイ亜目ミョウガガイ科の甲殻類。エボシガイ類中最大の種類で，体の長さは14cmに達する。頭状部にきば状に突出した殻板をもつ。名はその形による。相模湾以南の100m以深の深海底にある石や，海綿動物，腔腸動物など他動物の骨格に柄部で付着している。雌雄異体。雌は大きいが，雄は非常に小さく1mmくらいで，囊状をしており，ときおり，雌の外套（がいとう）腔の開口部下縁に付着しているのが見られる。　ミョウガガイ科Scalpellidaeは一般に深海底に広く分布し，多くの種類がある。
