[1] One of the administrative districts of Kyoto City. Established in 1889. The area is in the northwest of the city, between the Kamo River and the Kamiya River (Tenjin River). Home to the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, the Kyoto Prefectural Office, and Doshisha University, it is an administrative and cultural center. In 1955 , Kita-ku was divided.
