In the Middle Ages, these were ledgers showing the results of land surveys conducted by feudal lords. There were two types: the "Land Survey Register," which recorded the area, location, and owner's name for each plot of cultivated land, and the "Land Survey Record," which tallied the results to record the total number of fields, the number of removed fields (the number of fields exempt from tax), the number of fixed fields (the number of fields subject to tax), and the amount of tax. The inventory was the ledger for annual tax collection, while the ledger was the ledger for the next land survey. Together, the two played the role of ledgers for feudal lord control.

中世において、領主階級が行った検注（土地調査）の結果を示す台帳。一筆ごとの耕地について面積、所在地、保有者名を記した「検注取帳(とりちょう)」と、それを集計して惣田(そうでん)数、除田(じょでん)数（税が免除される田畠数）、定田(じょうでん)数（税負担の田畠数）、税額を記す「検注目録(もくろく)」との2種類がある。年々の税収納の台帳となるのは目録であるが、取帳は次の検注の台帳となる。両者相まって、領主支配の台帳の役割を果たす。
