Roman scholar. Born in Spain or Alexandria. A freedman of Emperor Augustus, friend of Ovid. First director of the Palatine Library. His works included studies on agriculture, literature, history, and religion. The only surviving work by him is the Fabulae, a collection of 220 myths, but this was compiled by someone else in the 2nd century.
