Honsaroku - Honsaroku

A book that explains how to govern the country. 1 volume. Published in the early Edo period. Also called "Chikoku Taigai" and "Shoshinki". It consists of seven topics, such as knowing the way of heaven, knowing the good and evil of samurai, knowing the mind of the lord and lord of the province (feudal lord), and how to punish peasants. The passage "The way of the peasants is to govern themselves so that they have no excess or shortage of money" has been noted as a summary of the agricultural policy ideas of the Edo Shogunate. Scholars such as Arai Hakuseki and Muro Kyuso have believed that it was written by Honda Sadonokami Masanobu for the second Tokugawa Shogun Hidetada, but it is believed that someone made some edits to the popular precept book "Kana Seiri" said to have been written by Fujiwara Seika, and that the author was Masanobu. It is included in the Family Precepts section of the Japanese Education Library, Japanese Economic Encyclopedia 3, and Japanese Economic Series 1.

天下を治める方法を説いた本。1巻。江戸初期の成立。『治国大概(ちこくたいがい)』『正信記』などともいう。天道を知る事、侍(さむらい)の善悪を知る事、国主・郡主（大名）の心を知る事、百姓の仕置(しおき)の事など7項目からなり、「百姓は財の余らぬ様に不足なき様に治る事道なり」という文章は江戸幕府の農政思想を要約したものとして注目されてきた。新井白石(あらいはくせき)、室鳩巣(むろきゅうそう)などの学者によって、本多佐渡守正信(ほんださどのかみまさのぶ)が徳川2代将軍秀忠(ひでただ)のために書いたものとされてきたが、藤原惺窩(せいか)著と伝えられる通俗訓戒書『仮名性理(かなせいり)』にだれかが手を加え著者を正信に仮託したものと思われる。『日本教育文庫』家訓篇(へん)、『日本経済大典』3、『日本経済叢書(そうしょ)』1所収。
