Edo Garrison - Edochindai

...the name of the army military organization in the first half of the Meiji era. On May 20, 1868 (Meiji 1), the new Meiji government established the Edo Chindai, took over the magistrate's office of the former shogunate, placed it under the jurisdiction of Imperial Prince Arisugawa Taruhito, and established military rule. On July 17, the Chindai was abolished and established the Chinshofu, and Sanjo Sanetomi was appointed Chinsho, transitioning to civilian rule and having him administer the 13 provinces east of Suruga, but on October 18, the Chinshofu was abolished and its jurisdiction transferred to administrative officials.
