Modern business conglomerates

Japanese: 現代財閥 - げんだいざいばつ

One of Korea's leading conglomerates and business groups. With a focus on the construction industry, it operates in a wide range of fields including shipbuilding, automobiles, electronics, petrochemicals, oil refining, and finance. Hyundai Engineering & Construction, established in 1947 by founder Chung Ju-yung (1915-), marked the beginning of the formation of the conglomerate. Its core company, Hyundai Engineering & Construction (capital of 233.6 billion won in 1995), grew on the back of the post-Korean War reconstruction and the subsequent construction boom in national development, and further solidified its foundations through success in overseas construction markets in Vietnam and the Middle East.

韓国の代表的な財閥，企業グループ。建設業を中心に造船，自動車，電子，石油化学，精油，金融など幅広い分野で事業を展開している。創始者の鄭周永(1915‐　)が1947年に設立した現代建設が財閥形成の起点となった。中核企業である現代建設(1995年度資本金2336億ウォン)は，朝鮮戦争後の復興とそれに続く国土開発における建設ブームに乗って成長し，さらに，ベトナムと中東の海外建設市場での成果によって，基盤を固めた。
