Revealed preference

Japanese: 顕示選好 - けんじせんこう（英語表記）revealed preference

This refers to the consumer's preferences that are revealed in the consumer's consumption expenditure. Here, consumer preferences refer to the consumer's preference regarding which consumption content is preferred over which other consumption content. This concept arose from an attempt to construct a theory that explains how changes in price and income change the choices consumers make in their consumption behavior, based solely on facts observed in the market. It is based on the premise that consumers make the judgment that, from among the various consumption contents that can be selected within the same budget, they actually choose the one they most prefer and express it in their consumption expenditure.

消費者の消費支出行為のうちに顕示される消費者の好みのことをいう。ここで消費者の好みというのは，ある内容の消費がどのような内容の消費よりも選好されるかについての消費者の好みを指す。この概念は，価格および所得の変化が消費者の消費行為における選択をどのように変化させるかを説明する理論を，市場で観察される事実のみを基礎として組み立てようとする試みから生じた。消費者は，同じ予算の範囲内で選択しうるさまざまな消費内容のなかから，自分が最も好むものを実際に選択して消費支出行為のうちに顕示するという判断を前提としている。
