When someone else's property becomes yours by prescription or by finding lost property, you do not inherit the rights from the other person, but rather you acquire the rights independently and without any connection to the other person; this is called original acquisition. On the other hand, when you buy something from someone else or a child inherits a parent's property, you acquire the rights by descent based on the rights that the other person or parent already had, and this is called successive acquisition. These are distinctions based on legal understanding and do not necessarily match common sense. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
