Nishiasai [town] - Nishiasai

Japanese: 西浅井[町] - にしあざい

A former town in Ika District, northern Shiga Prefecture. Located on the north shore of Lake Biwa, the town is divided into two valleys, the Shiotsu Okawa River in the east and the Oura River in the west, by a mountain range that runs north-south through the center. Rice is the main agricultural product, and fishing is also practiced on the lake shore. There is a diesel engine factory. The Hokuriku Main Line and National Route 8 run along the Okawa River, and the Kosei Line runs through the south. In 1993, Lake Biwa was registered as a Ramsar site. In January 2010, it was incorporated into Nagahama City along with Torahime Town, Kohoku Town, Takatsuki Town, Kinomoto Town, and Yogo Town in Higashiasai District. Area: ^{80.81 km2} . Population: 4,622 (2005).

滋賀県北部，伊香(いか)郡の旧町。琵琶湖の北岸に位置し，中央を南北に走る地塁山地によって東の塩津大川，西の大浦川の二つの谷に分かれる。農業は米作を主とし，湖岸では漁業も行われる。ディーゼルエンジンの工場がある。大川に沿って北陸本線，国道８号線，南部を湖西線が通じる。1993年に琵琶湖がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。2010年１月東浅井郡虎姫町，湖北町，伊香郡高月町，木之本町，余呉町と長浜市へ編入。80.81km²。4622人（2005）。
