Mounet‐Sully

Japanese: ムーネ･シュリー（英語表記）Mounet‐Sully

French actor. His real name was Jean Sully Mounet. He was one of the great actors known as the "sacred monster." He took the world by storm by playing all the major roles in the major tragedies of French classics from the 1870s to the beginning of the 20th century. He was born in Bergerac in the southwest of France. He later studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, and in 1872, at the age of 31, he entered the Comédie-Française, making his debut as Oreste in J. Racine's Andromaque, and was astonished by his realistic portrayal of the character, who was consumed by madness.

フランスの俳優。本名はジャン･シュリー･ムーネJean Sully Mounet。〈聖なる怪物〉と呼ばれた名優の一人。1870年代から20世紀の初めにかけて，フランス古典の主な悲劇の大役をすべて演じ，一世を風靡した。南西部ベルジュラックに生まれる。やや遅れてパリ国立演劇学校(コンセルバトアール)で学び，1872年，31歳でコメディ･フランセーズに入り，J.ラシーヌ《アンドロマック》のオレスト役でデビュー，狂気につかれるこの人物を真に迫って演じ驚嘆された。
