Occupying the western part of Mukojima in Mitsugi District, Hiroshima Prefecture, this old town includes Iwashi Island to the west. The town is connected to the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge, Onomichi-Imabari Route, the Nishiseto Expressway (Shimanami Kaido). In addition to vegetables and flowers, mandarin oranges are cultivated on the mountain slopes. Fishing is also practiced. 広島県御調(みつぎ)郡，向島の西部を占め，西隣の岩子(いわし)島を含む旧町。本州四国連絡橋尾道〜今治ルート西瀬戸自動車道（しまなみ海道）が通じる。野菜，花卉(かき)のほか山地斜面ではミカン栽培が盛ん。漁業も行う。2005年３月御調郡御調町と尾道市へ編入。18.40km2。１万6734人（2003）。
