Ikonahime Shrine - Ikonahime Shrine

Located in Shirahama, Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Also called Shirahama Shrine. The main deity is Ikonahime-no-Mikoto, and the other deities enshrined in the shrine are Mishima-no-Okami (Kotoshiro-nushi-no-Mikoto), Mirumeno-no-Mikoto, Wakamiya-no-Mikoto, and Tsurugi-no-Mikoto. The main deity is the consort of Kotoshironushi-no-Mikoto, who is the deity of Mishima-taisha, said to be the largest shrine in Izu Province (Shizuoka Prefecture), and her name appears in the Nihon Koki and Montoku Jitsuroku. Under the Engi system, it was ranked as a Myojin-taisha. It is revered as a fire god, a guardian deity of the sea, and a god of abundant grains. The annual festival is held on October 29th, with the Hitachi Festival and the Onbei Nagashi Festival taking place before and after. The Sanbaso dance on the 29th is designated as an intangible cultural property of the city.

静岡県下田(しもだ)市白浜に鎮座。白浜神社ともよばれる。伊古奈比咩命を主神に、相殿(あいどの)に三島大神(みしまのおおかみ)（事代主命(ことしろぬしのみこと)）、見目(みるめの)大神、若宮大神、剣御子(つるぎのみこ)大神を祀(まつ)る。主神は伊豆国（静岡県）第一の社といわれている三島(みしま)大社の祭神である事代主命の后(きさき)神で、『日本後紀』や『文徳実録(もんとくじつろく)』にもその名がみえる。延喜(えんぎ)の制で名神(みょうじん)大社に列している。火神として、また海上守護神、五穀豊饒(ほうじょう)の神として尊崇されている。例祭は10月29日で、その前後に火達祭(ひたちさい)、御幣流祭(おんべいながしさい)が行われる。29日の三番叟(さんばそう)の舞は市の無形文化財指定。
