Gehenna (English spelling)

Japanese: ゲヘナ(英語表記)Gehinnon; Gehenna
Gehenna (English spelling)
In Hebrew, it means "Valley of Ben Hinnom (the son)". It is a valley located south of Jerusalem on one of the borders between Judah and Benjamin. During the Kingdom period, children were burned as burnt offerings to the pagan god Baal (2 Kings 23:10, Jeremiah 7:31). The prophet Jeremiah repeatedly condemned this ritual and prophesied that one day the valley would be called the Valley of Slaughter (Jeremiah 19:5-6). In Judaism, it is figuratively called hell, the place where sinners are punished after death, and the New Testament also uses the name in the same sense.
