Prague School of Linguistics

A school of linguistics formed in the mid-1920s by V. Matthesius and R. Jakobson. Also known as the Prague School of Linguistics or the Phonological School. Journals: Language and Literature, TCLP. Members included Trubetzkoy, Mukazhovsky, and Bogatyrev. They adopted the concepts of "function" and "structure" from Baudouin de Courtenay and Saussure, contributing to the establishment of structuralism, and also making notable achievements in literary theory and folklore studies. →Structural linguistics
