〘Noun〙① One of the three bodies of a Buddha. A Buddha who appears in various forms to save all living beings. Incarnation. Response body. Response transformation body. Transformation body. ※Shobogenzo (1231-53) Gyobutsu no gigi "The action of a Buddha is not a reward Buddha, nor a transformed Buddha, nor a self-nature body Buddha" [Hokkyokyo-1]② A Buddha or Bodhisattva who manifests through supernatural powers and takes the form of a Buddha. ※Saidaiji Zaizairyukicho - December 25, 11th year of the Hoki era (780) "One piece of light raised from the body (one foot high, with images of transformed Buddhas and vocal Bodhisattvas, each wearing 72 mirrors, various sizes)"③ A Buddha who is a sign that a Bodhisattva indicates as the goal of his or her practice. 〘名〙① 仏の三身の一つ。衆生を救うために、さまざまに姿を変えて現われた仏。化身。応身。応化身。変化身。※正法眼蔵（1231‐53）行仏威儀「行仏それ報仏にあらず、化仏にあらず、自性身仏にあらず」〔法集経‐一〕② 仏菩薩が神通力によって化現して、ある仏の姿をとったもの。※西大寺資財流記帳‐宝亀一一年（780）一二月二五日「挙身光一基〈高壱丈一尺、在化仏并音声菩薩像、各着鏡七十二面、大小雑〉」③ 菩薩がその行の目的として示す標識としての仏。たとえば、観音菩薩の頭部にあらわす阿彌陀仏の像など。※東宝記（1352）一「十一面各冠中有_二化仏像_一」〔陀羅尼集経‐五〕
