〘noun〙① A stand for books, ink boxes, etc. Also, at poetry gatherings, renga, and haiku banquets, it is the stand for short poems, kaishi, etc., and is the centerpiece and symbol of the banquet. Fudai. ※Dairishiki (833), September 9th, Chrysanthemum Banquet Ceremony, " Two writing tables in the nai-ryo are set up on the northwest side of the stage."② A box held by a nun. ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Koshoku Ichidai Onna ( 1686), Volume 3, "Two short silk cloths are tied together, and the writing table is occupied by the Ushio of Kumano."③ One of the Nohgaku props. A table is made out of bamboo and wrapped in a thin crimson cloth called koudan , with the top staggered in places as decoration. Used in " Soushiaraikomachi."

〘名〙① 書籍・すずり箱などをのせる台。また、歌会や連歌・俳諧の会席で、短冊・懐紙などをのせる台で、会席の中心・象徴となるもの。ふだい。※内裏式(833)九月九日菊花宴式「内蔵寮立文台於舞台西北」② 歌比丘尼の持つ手箱。※浮世草子・好色一代女(1686)三「絹の二布の裾短く、とりなり一つに拵へ、文台(ブンダイ)に入しは、熊野の牛王」③ 能楽の作り物の一つ。竹で机の形を作ってその上を香緂(こうだん)と呼ぶ紅色の細布で巻き、所々を千鳥がけにして飾りとしたもの。「草子洗小町(そうしあらいこまち)」で用いる。
