A city in the north-central part of Tokyo. It was incorporated as a city in 1970. It is located on the Musashino Plateau and was once a farming village on the outskirts of Tokyo, but it rapidly developed into a residential area after the double-tracking of the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. Especially since the 1960s, large housing estates such as Hibarigaoka, which straddles Nishitokyo City, and Takiyama in the southwest of the city were built on former munitions factories. 12.88 ^km2 . Population: 116,546 (2010).

東京都中北部の市。1970年市制。武蔵野台地上にあり，東京近郊の一農村であったが，西武池袋線の複線化とともに急速に住宅地化した。とくに1960年代以降，軍需工場跡地などに西東京市にまたがるひばりが丘や，市域南西部に滝山などの大住宅団地が建設された。12.88km²。11万6546人（2010）。
