Tomoyakko

Kabuki dance. Nagauta. Lyrics by Segawa Joko II. Music by Kineya Saburosuke (10th Rokuzaemon). Choreography by Ichiyama Nasoro and Fujima Daisuke. A passage from the seven transformation dance "Nijirigaki Nanatsuiroha" performed by Nakamura Shikan (4th Utaemon) at the Nakamuraza in Edo in March 1828 (Bunsei 11). A representative work of Nagauta "Yakkomono", it is also called "Shikan Yakko" in commemoration of its first performer. The play depicts a samurai who is accompanying his master to the red-light district, but gets separated from his master and runs off with a lantern in hand. He imitates his master, dancing the Tanzen Roppo style and tapping his feet to the beat. The performance is filled with the glamorous atmosphere of the red-light district, and the highlight is the various tapping of the feet. In recent years, this was a specialty of Bando Mitsugoro VII.
