Born: January 15, 1881 in Tokyo [Died] January 19, 1947. Chiba. Theoretical physicist and poet. Graduated from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Tokyo Imperial University in 1906. Became an assistant professor at Tohoku Imperial University (1911), studied in Germany and Switzerland under A. Sommerfeld, and became a professor at Tohoku Imperial University (14). He conducted pioneering research in Japan on the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics, and was awarded the Imperial Academy Prize in 1919. Later, he left the university due to a love affair with the poet Hara Asao (21). After that, he made a great contribution to the dissemination of natural science, especially physics, through his writing activities and the magazine Kagaku. As a poet (whose poetic name was Atoshi), he sympathized with Shiki and belonged to Araragi, but later participated in the founding of Nikko (24), making his anti-Araragi stance clear, and turned to free verse colloquial poetry. The collection of poems "Aijitsu" (22) shows the last style of the Araragi period, but it also experimented with new forms such as line breaks. In his later years, he became known more as a theorist than as a poet. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
