Rachel
A character in the Old Testament. Jacob's wife, daughter of Laban. Jacob married Leah, Jacob's older sister, by custom, and then Rachel. Leah had several children before Rachel, but Rachel had none. She gave her maid Bilhah to Jacob, and they were fathered by Jacob and became husbands. Rachel later gave birth to Joseph and Benjamin, but she died in childbirth during the birth of Benjamin and was buried at Ephrathah on the road to Bethlehem.

旧約聖書中の人物。ヤコブの妻，ラバンの娘。ヤコブは慣習によって姉娘レアと先に結婚し，その後ラケルも妻とした。レアはラケルより先に幾人かの子を得たが，ラケルには生れず，婢女ビルハをヤコブに与えてダン，ナフタリを得た。その後ラケルもヨセフ，ベニヤミンを産んだが，ベニヤミンのとき難産で死に，ベツレヘムへの道エフラタに埋葬された。
